We opened our 2025/26 FKF County League campaign with a spirited 1–1 draw against Mwihoko FC at the Babadogo Grounds. The match was a true test of character, intensity, and tactical discipline as both sides fought for early-season momentum.
Mathare River started brightly, maintaining possession and pressing with energy. The midfield worked hard to control the tempo, creating key openings and pushing the team forward. Mwihoko FC responded with physicality and pace on the counter, eventually turning the match into a competitive back-and-forth battle.
Both teams scored in a lively contest at Baba Dogo Grounds, with Mathare River pushing hard for a late winner. Despite waves of pressure in the final minutes, the match ended 1–1 — a fair reflection of two determined sides. The point gives us a solid foundation to build on as we prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
Resumption of the Football for Plastic League
Alongside the league kickoff, we are proud to announce the official restart of the Football for Plastic League, a groundbreaking community initiative designed to unite environmental action with the power of sport.
How It Works
1. Collect Plastic Waste
Community members, youth, supporters, and players gather plastic waste from homes, schools, roadsides, markets, and riverbanks etc.
2. Exchange for Participation
Instead of paying registration fees, teams and individuals submit the plastic waste they’ve collected. This becomes their “entry fee” for matches, events, and league activities.
3. Play Football
Teams compete in exciting, high-energy matches that promote teamwork, talent, and environmental responsibility. Every game played represents waste diverted from the environment.
4. Responsible Recycling
All plastic waste collected is sorted, recycled, or properly disposed of — contributing directly to a cleaner Mathare River, a healthier neighborhood, and a more conscious community.
Player and Technical Bench Responsibility
Mathare River FC is setting the standard:
Players and the technical bench will now be required to collect and submit plastic waste during training sessions and on matchdays.
This mandate strengthens the club’s commitment to environmental leadership and ensures that every person wearing the Mathare River FC badge plays a role in restoring our river and protecting our community.
Mathare River FC continues to stand not only for football excellence, but also for environmental transformation.
One team, one community, one mission — clean the river, build the future.
