Everybody inside our home ground at Baba Dogo felt the magnitude of Jared Ochieng’s 76th‑minute free kick against St. Spanners.

First and foremost, it sealed a 2-0 victory over a side that had threatened to claw their way back into the contest. It also ensured Mathare River maintained momentum in front of our supporters, keeping belief alive as we head into the crucial stretch of the season.

There was added significance in the fact that it was our captain who delivered. Jared had already scored from a free kick in the previous match, and to repeat the feat—this time under pressure, just outside the area—was nothing short of remarkable. His strike was a captain’s goal, the kind that defines matches and inspires teammates.

Earlier, the breakthrough had come in the 19th minute, when Brian Juma initiated a blistering counterattack and finished it himself with a composed strike. That early lead gave Riverwon control, though missed chances meant the half ended only 1-0.

The second half was a different story. St. Spanners emerged revitalized, launching dangerous attacks that tested our defense. Yet Riverwon’s backline held firm, showing grit and discipline. We too had opportunities to extend the lead, but conversion proved elusive until Ochieng’s decisive moment.

As the final whistle blew, there was no doubt about the Man of the Match. Jared Ochieng’s leadership, composure, and brilliance carried Riverwon to victory.

Next up, Mathare River will be hosted by Ogwedhi at Baba Dogo Grounds, a fixture that promises intensity and another chance to build on this winning run against a team that we share the same home Ground.
